Planning a destination wedding? Don't know where to start? Here are a few things you should take into consideration where hiring your bridal makeup artist and/or hairstylist for your big day!

First things first: are you going to be hiring a local bridal artist or do you want to hire an artist that you have had your eye on?

Hiring bridal vendors for your destination wedding can often be quite tricky. You may not be sure whether you want to bring in an artist from out of town or hire someone locally. Untimatly, it may just come down to budget. Whichever route you choose here are a few general rules of thumb to take into consideration:

Do they have a professional website other than their social media presence (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Etc.)

How long have they been in business?

Experience working in the beauty/wedding industry is a must! You need to know that the vendor/makeup artist you are hiring has the experience to handle any situation that may come up.

Are they insured?

How long have they provided bridal services specifically. This is a great question as well because they may be a makeup artist or hairstylist, but have little to no experience working in bridal which can often times be more then what they expect. It's not just putting pretty makeup on your face or hairspray in your hair!

Now once you have taken a look into those things, let's talk logistics.

If you are hiring someone locally but you are coming from out of town, state, country, etc. Does the local artist have a bridal preview (trial run) policy. If you are wanting a trial you will ned to check their availability against your travel schedule as well.

If you are bringing a traveling/destination makeup artist or hairstylist, you will need to take into consideration any travel time as well as service time.

For destination makeup artists and hairstylists the tavel policy will vary but to give you an idea here is how i typically book/schedule destination bookings:

Depending on location I usually plan with my bride the number of travel days with my bride and her schedule of events. For example, if my bride is getting married on a Saturday I would typically fly in either he Friday or Thursday before. Sometime earlier if the bride has other events planned the week of her wedding and wants makeup provided for those events as well, such as the welcome party, rehearsal dinner etc.

And that is just the tip of the ice burg! Have more questions about destination weddings? Feel free to reach out to me!
